The federal government extends for six more months the cap on LP gas prices

The Ministry of Energy will extend for six more months the policy of maximum prices for the sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LP gas), according to an announcement published this Monday in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).

The federal government established the price cap at the end of last July, to be implemented until the first month of this year. With this extension, the policy will be valid until next July.

The maximum price policy was established as an emergency measure in the face of the constant increase in the international price of propane – the main compound of LP gas – which was derived in turn from the economic dynamics generated by the coronavirus health emergency and after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador admitted that with LP gas he had failed to fulfill his commitment not to raise the price above inflation.
