Gresini died last February, at the age of 60, after not having been able to overcome the pneumonia derived from the coronavirus that he contracted in December.
Padovani , widow of the two-time 125cc world champion (1985 and 1987), will hold the position of CEO of the company. Lorenzo Gresini will be part of the administrative section of the structure, while Luca will be in charge of sports management. In fact, the second is already in Jerez, from where he will follow the evolution of the different teams.
Since its formation, in 1997, the structure has added four riders’ titles , starting with Daijiro Kato’s, in 2001 (Honda), and following those of Toni Elías in Moto2 (2010), Jorge Martín in Moto3 (2018) and Matteo Ferrari in MotoE (2019). In MotoGP, moreover, the team was runner-up in the world three times.
Two of them with Sete Gibernau (2003 and 2004), and one with Marco Melandri (2005). In this facet, the formation was practically always linked to Honda before going on to manage the two Aprilias of the manufacturer from Noale (2015), in a link that will come to an end at the end of this course.
In the statement sent to the media this Thursday, Gresini reaffirms the commitment made last year by Fausto, which tied the continuity of his arm in MotoGP , for the period between 2022 and 2026.
Once the Noale manufacturer starts competing with its own two seats, it is not clear which bikes will be chosen by the team, which has been in contact with Ducati for months (before Fausto’s death).
The identity of the riders who will compete in MotoGP in 2022 is also not known, even though there seems to be an interest in promoting Fabio Di Giannantonio, who already runs under the Gresini umbrella in Moto2.
