The names for boys most chosen by parents for their offspring are, in order of popularity:

  1. Martin : comes from the Latin form Martis, which means “Mars” or “consecrated to the god Mars”
  2. Mateo : means “gift of God”. It is also popular in the Catalan form, Mateu.
  3. Hugo: of Germanic origin, it means “intelligent”, “lucid”, “insightful”.
  4. Lucas : Latin name meaning “he who stands out for his brilliance”, “he who was born at dawn”.
  5. Leo – The most popular boy’s name of the last five years. It derives from Latin and is a variant of Leon, it symbolizes the fierceness of this animal and also power and justice.
  6. Diego: name of Greek origin, evolution of the name of Diago, which means “doctrine”.
  7. Daniel: name of Hebrew origin that means “God is my judge”.
  8. Alejandro: of Greek origin, means “protector or winner of men”.
  9. Pablo: of Latin origin, means “small, humble”.
  10. Mario : of Hebrew origin, it is the masculine variant of Maria and means “loved by God”.
