Hyenas are mammals belonging to the Hyaenidae family. These animals have a spectacular bite and stand out for the sound they emit, similar to a water laugh. Likewise, there are four different species: the striped hyena, the brown hyena, the spotted hyena and the wolf of land or proteles. They are the most curious animals!
These mammals live mainly in Africa, although it is also possible to find them in areas such as India, Afghanistan or Pakistan. In addition, they tend to live in arid areas where there is not much vegetation, such as the African savanna.
On the other hand, hyenas are opportunistic scavengers, since they feed mainly on dead animals abandoned by other carnivorous animals. Thus, when they go in packs they are able to drive away the lions to keep their food.
Regarding their reproduction, hyenas are polygamous animals. Females have a gestation period of four months, and between one and five young are born that are totally dependent on their mother for the first three months of life.
