A report from the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) recommends avoiding ham, bacon, salami and other smoked or cured meats , as they increase the chance of developing colon cancer . According to Marni Craze, education manager at the WCRF, 70 grams a week is the amount of these products that British people should consume from childhood to avoid cancer in adulthood. This measure would prevent around 3,700 such cases in Great Britain. "Kids better learn to view processed meat as an occasional treat," says Craze.
The WCRF has also recalled that the consumption of red meat should be limited in the same way so as not to exceed 500 grams a week. In addition, it has warned of the intake of snacks high in calories and saturated fat and advises the introduction of fruit and juices in the lunch box of schoolchildren.
