Mercedes achieved its great objective in 2014, after several years of progressive work, the German team took advantage of the arrival of the hybrid era in Formula 1 and quickly identified itself as the fastest team on the grid, a position that until now has not yet has abandoned.
In this 2021, Mercedes won the constructors’ title again, the eighth in a row, but lost the drivers’ title against Max Verstappen and Red Bull, this being the first championship they have lost in eight years. In these eight seasons, the Brackley team has been part of no more and no less than 160 Grands Prix , in which they have completed a total of 18,468 laps .
Bringing together all its drivers since 2014 (Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Valtteri Bottas and George Russell (Sakhir 2020), Mercedes has achieved 210 front rows , more than Grand Prix races, a clear example of how competitive they have been during all these campaigns.
In terms of victories, those with the silver star have managed to win 63.9% of the races they have played in these eight years, nothing more and nothing less than 111 victories and 6,157 laps as leaders .
In addition to these numbers, the 118 pole positions (more than victories), the 232 podiums and the 81 fastest laps they have achieved in this period of time in which Mercedes has dominated Formula 1 with an iron fist also stand out.
But without a doubt, the most important numbers translate into titles. Mercedes ‘ eight consecutive constructors’ championships set a new record , Ferrari is still second with 6 (1999 – 2004). In addition, these eight titles position the German team as the third most successful team, tied with McLaren, in the history of Formula 1, only behind Ferrari’s 16 and Williams’ 9.
