If you are short or at least convinced of it, you have a personality that tends to be inferior and to feel threatened by others. This is the conclusion of a new study published in the specialized journal Psychiatry Research , which reaffirms the disadvantages of not exceeding five feet, since small individuals are more likely to suffer from heart disease, in addition to charging less and being perceived as worse leaders .
The team of scientists from the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) has concluded in their research that people who see the world from a lower height have lower self-esteem and manifest greater suspicion of those around them, and may even develop delusional thoughts and paranoid. To verify this hypothesis, the team had 60 adult women with negative personality visualize a virtual reality recording that simulated the vision of a short person . The results showed a link between the individual's mood and the feeling of being above or below average height.
In the words of Daniel Freeman, professor of clinical psychology and lead author of the research, "height is conceived in the social environment as a trait that confers authority and success ", so that our perception of it, adjusts or not to reality is decisive when it comes to feeling powerful or insecure. This curious finding could help develop more effective psychological treatments for severe paranoia.
