After three exciting free practice sessions in which Red Bull and Ferrari seemed the favourites, the rain changed the landscape for qualifying. Before that, it was Charles Leclerc’s suspension that rocked the 2022 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, which will force the Monegasque to start from the bottom of the grid, albeit with a completely new engine.
With his incredible lap, Max Verstappen will start from pole position, followed by an epic Fernando Alonso, who will be on the front row for the first time since the 2012 German Grand Prix , which was his last top position in a qualifying session at the highest category of motorsport. Behind him will be his compatriot, Carlos Sainz, who will be the only Ferrari in the front zone, and who will have the option of recovering points from Sergio Pérez, who will be 13th on the grid.
Lewis Hamilton also surprised, who overtook his Mercedes teammate, George Russell, who took a chance on the soft dry tire when the track was still wet. The seven-time world champion will start from 4th place, while the other British will be 8th. More unexpected was the 5th position of Kevin Magnussen, who sneaked into Q3, like the other Haas, that of Mick Schumacher, who will try to score the first points of his life in Formula 1 from 6th position.
From behind, Charles Leclerc will try to come back, who will have to overcome all those who were eliminated in Q1 and Q2 so that Verstappen does not score more points in the general classification of the world championship and can continue fighting for the title. To do this, he will have 70 laps in Canada and a very competitive Ferrari F1-75 in long runs.
