The statistics that the 2022 F1 Emilia Romagna GP left us

After each grand prix of the 2022 season, Motorsport.com brings you a compilation of the most important statistics. These are the figures and data after the fourth round of the campaign, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

The grand prix and the drivers

– It was the third edition of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

– The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, in Imola, hosted a grand prix for the thirtieth time. It is the 13th most visited circuit in Formula 1.

– Fernando Alonso made his 338th F1 start, which puts him 12 shy of the record for the most grands prix held by Kimi Raikkonen (350).

Qualifying and sprint race

– For the first time in history, pole position was awarded at the end of a session that was not intended to determine the starting grid of the race. It was the result of the sprint session that was used to set the grid.

– Max Verstappen took his 14th career pole, equaling Alberto Ascari, James Hunt, Ronnie Peterson and Rubens Barrichello. It is the first in Imola.

– It was the 75th pole position for the Red Bull team and the second for an engine from the Austrian structure.

– By taking pole by 0.779 seconds, Max Verstappen made the biggest difference in qualifying at Imola since 1992. At the time, Nigel Mansell took pole, 1.053 seconds ahead of Riccardo Patrese.

– You had to go back to the 2012 Japanese GP to find no trace of any Mercedes in a Q3. At the time, the grand prix also saw a Red Bull driver achieve a Grand Chelem.

– By finishing fourth in qualifying, Kevin Magnussen equaled his best qualifying finish. He had already finished in this position at the 2014 Australian and German Grands Prix.

– The 2022 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was the first time no French driver had progressed to Q2 since China in 2017.

– Mick Schumacher started from 10th on the grid, his best starting position since joining F1.

– Last year, Alfa Romeo only came out twice in the top eight. At Imola, Valtteri Bottas made his third start of the season.

The race

– Max Verstappen has achieved his 22nd victory in Formula 1, equaling Damon Hill. It is his tenth win from pole position.

– This is Red Bull’s 77th victory as a manufacturer and second as an engine supplier.

– Red Bull took its second one-two finish of the hybrid era on Sunday after the 2016 Malaysian Grand Prix. It is the 18th in the team’s history.

– Max Verstappen did his 17th fastest lap of the race, the same as Rubens Barrichello.

– The 2021 world champion led a race from start to finish for the seventh time in his career, equaling Ascari, Alain Prost and Nico Rosberg.

– Verstappen has thus completed a Grand Chelem (pole position, victory, best lap and all laps led). It is the second of his career, as many as Juan Manuel Fangio, Jack Brabham, Mika Häkkinen and Nico Rosberg.

– But the Dutchman went even further, and we will probably have to invent a new term (Super Grand Chelem?), because he added a victory in the sprint race to that.

– It was also a fourth hat-trick (pole position, best lap and victory) for Verstappen, as many as Stirling Moss, Jacky Ickx, Jackie Stewart and Felipe Massa.

РSergio P̩rez and Lando Norris climbed the podium for the 17th time (as well as Ascari and Keke Rosberg) and for the 6th time (also featuring Wolfgang von Trips and Carlos Pace), respectively.

– Lando Norris is on a streak of three consecutive podium finishes in Italy, following last year’s finishes at Imola (third) and Monza (second).

– Sebastian Vettel scored points for the sixteenth consecutive season. He equals Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.
