This is how high-heeled shoes have evolved since they were invented

Heeled shoes are one of the oldest as well as elegant garments that we have in our wardrobe. It is currently associated with women , although there was a time when men also wore these shoes that were difficult to wear as well as elegant.

Since Ancient Egypt, the existence of this type of garment that stylizes the legs of the wearer has been known. Historians themselves recognize that the Hittite people were the forerunners of the first models of what we would understand today as a high-heeled shoe.

Man first

You have to go back many years later to see much more accurate and similar the high-heeled shoe that we know today. It was in the 15th century, although already in Greece, the actors wore similar garments in their performances, although it was not a common garment in society.

The great heeled shoe boom came in the 15th century . During the Renaissance period, and years before, the shoe became the standard for elegant dress among nobles and kings, thus creating a mode of distinction between the wealthy class and the people.

During this century and the next, a type with cork on the sole began to be used, made of leather that left the support of the sole of the foot vertically. It was a status symbol for the noblest classes.

During these years, personalities of the nobility such as Henry II of France, made the heel in shoes fashionable, since he wore them at his own wedding with Catherine de Medici. In 1660, King Louis XIV walked with heels specially designed for him , and female models began to appear who would also wear this type of footwear.

The chapines

In the seventeenth century those known as chapines began to become popular among women. It was a type of shoe that enhanced the figure of women with heels that could measure up to 50 centimeters . The idea was had that the higher the heel, the higher the social status.

The fashion was changing during the later years. The women began to wear more rounded shoes, with heels and the man gradually went on to wear a more square boot with a much smaller elevation.

With this change in fashion, and in the conceptions of status, men began to wear darker and more sober garments, while the high-heeled shoe remained for women as a symbol of femininity and distinction. Today it is one of the most used shoes in the world.
