Tito Rabat is the rider chosen by Ducati to replace Jorge Martín for the Pramac team at the Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix , which will take place next week in Jerez , Motorsport.com has confirmed .
Rabat defended the colors of Avintia last season on a Ducati and despite having a contract for 2021, he was left without a motorcycle to make room for Luca Marini in the Andorran structure.
The relationship between Rabat and Ducati, despite the disagreement, has remained cordial and the Italian house encouraged him to switch to WorldSBK with one of its Barni Racing team bikes, which runs on a Ducati Panigale V4 R.
Waiting for the World Championship of motorcycles derived from series to start on May 21 in Aragon , Rabat has a free agenda to be able to replace the injured Martín in the races that the Spaniard causes, although at the moment it is only confirmed for the first , in Jerez.
Rabat, 31, makes his debut this season in WorldSBK after 15 years in the MotoGP World Championship, the last five in the premier class, achieving a total of 13 victories and a world title in 2014, all in Moto2.
Although logic would lead one to think that Ducati’s first choice to replace the injured Martín was the test rider Michele Pirro , the Italian rider has accumulated many kilometers this year with the bike, and in Borgo Panigale they have preferred to put a rider on the track different to collect new data.
Rabat was already during the preseason in a test held in Jerez with the rest of the Ducati riders, although on that occasion the tests were carried out with the street Panigale.
