To the mother who leaves her child at school with a lump in her throat: calm down, in a few days everything will be fine

Going back to school is not the same for all children , since there are some who enjoy the moment and reunite with classmates and teachers, while for others they are complicated days that require time, understanding and support.

The same thing happens to mothers and not all of us jump for joy at the return to the classroom. Moreover, there are those who have a really bad time and leave their children at school with a lump in their throats and contained emotion.

If this is your case, from mother to mother I would like to dedicate these words to you

To you, mother, who watches your son in the distance with a heavy heart and tears running down your cheeks. I understand you. I know what you are going through and you have nothing to be ashamed of, even though you try to hide yourself from the crowd of seemingly smiling and carefree parents that crowd the school gates.

I do not know you, but I can perfectly feel that pinch that you notice in your heart , that mixture of feelings and that nostalgia that invades you when you see how fast your child is growing.

It may be the first time your little one starts school.

I know. It takes a lot to separate and let go of the reins . It’s hard not to run in his direction, take him in your arms and dry his tears with your kisses. It’s hard to believe his teachers when they tell you that when you enter the classroom, the tantrum passes . And it is difficult to go home or to the office as if nothing happened, when in reality you feel that you have left your heart at the door of the school.

It may not be the first time your child starts school, but you have changed schools, be shy and find it difficult to make friends, or have any problems or difficulties that tarnishes a happy return to the classroom.

I know. It takes a lot to show a strong, confident and confident attitude when inside you feel anxious and doubtful . It is difficult to encourage him when you yourself feel discouraged and have spent nights without sleep thinking about how the course will go, if he will make friends and above all, if he will be fine.

Maybe your son is older . So old that a new educational cycle has begun. Gone is his childhood and his studies in Primary , and now you welcome a new stage in his life, adolescence and secondary studies.

I know. It takes a lot to get behind and let it fly alone. It is difficult to trust their autonomy, their judgment and their decision-making capacity . And it is difficult to accept that that little boy who did not want to separate from your legs on his first day of kindergarten, today asks you not to accompany him to school or institute.

I know that these first days of class will be difficult for you and that you are looking forward to this heartbreak that you feel. Relax, it will pass, but in the meantime allow yourself to feel without prejudice or taboos , even if you think you are going against the tide .

I assure you that in a few days you will have settled into this new routine of classes, tutorials and homework, you will know by heart the names of all your son’s friends and their teachers, and you will be wanting him to tell you how he has gone and what funny anecdotes have happened to him.

Ah! And before you know it, your child will enter school without looking back and without saying goodbye to you. When that moment comes, feel happy and satisfied, it is the indisputable sign that everything is going well.

There are children who are very sociable and who talk to everyone. Others who do not fear anything, or who are more innocent... which can also lead them to talk to anyone who approaches them.

The FOMO effect (Fear Of Missing Out) is defined as "the fear of missing something". And although it is a concept that has become relevant in recent years, it is nothing new. In the late 1990s, Dr. Dan Herman coined this term.

When your children pay more attention to Alexa than to you and you decide...

We live surrounded by technology and it is inevitable that this will be incorporated as one more tool in parenting. In addition to apps that help with things ranging from designing your baby's room to managing the calendar of children with separated parents, devices such as tablets, mobile phones or smart speakers are here to stay. Proof of this is the growing use of Alexa as a timer that children obey without question (or at least without protesting as much as their mother).
