There are many games to enjoy as a couple, whether they are adventure, action or puzzle, even seeing how some video games allow you to share even the controller between two people to play at the same time, such as Overcooked.
Today we are going to talk about Toodee and Topdee , which proposes a change in concept compared to cooperative experiences in which you have to hit the coconut. What would happen if two unique worlds were mixed?
The initial concept of Toodee and Topdee could not be simpler, by mixing two different universes, such as a typical 2D platform with another with a view from above in which we can move freely. Two worlds that have come together and that we can alternate at will so that Toodee and Topdee reach the exit.
This has a much deeper background behind, seeing how this mixture is the product of the revenge of Toodoo, a being who created the almighty Aleph for the creation of the eight worlds of the universe. Helping his master to eradicate potential glitches , he became concerned as the creation of the last world approached … and decided to crush them all into one.
What does this mean? That both Toodee and Topdee will have to face dangers from other worlds while helping each other, modifying what the other sees. A simple example: in Topdee’s world there is no gravity , so you can drag or grab a box and put it wherever you want. And this box (which will remain fixed, one of the few exceptions) will serve as a platform for Toodee.
This will be complicated, logically, having to alternate all the time so that the partner does not die. It should be said that when we control a character, the world of the other will be quiet , hence it serves to solve that a platform is destroyed to take a key located lower with Topdee and that Toodee comes to the rescue by placing a box underneath right after. It works very well.
Toodee and Topdee, the strange couple by force
Unlike boxes, in Toodee’s world gravity does affect other objects or enemies . This will be important in more advanced phases, as we can kill the pigs (yes, there are enemy pigs, literally) making them follow us with Topdee to change Toodee and fall on the spikes if we calculate the exact moment. Because the pigs will not stop chasing us with anyone.
This gravity will also cause situations in which it will be necessary to alternate in milliseconds to place objects in the only point that Topdee could pass through in his reality, being a sign that there will not always be calm.
Its initial section reaches its culmination with a most interesting puzzle , when the water comes into play. If we are with Topdee, this liquid element disappears down the drain (as long as it is not covered with a box), while with Toodee it floats up. And the grace is in controlling which side we want it to come out more by controlling the traps on both sides of the screen. The pity is that your demo on Steam (which is still available) does not allow you to see the duel against your boss.
The dietzribi studio, made up of two brothers, has not yet ventured to set a date for it, but Toodee and Topdee seems like the typical puzzle game that beats you with little effort and that still has much more to prove. In addition, although it can be played alone, it will also have an optional local cooperative mode.
