The AAA four-diamond resort offers many family-friendly features, including spacious suites with kitchen facilities, but it’s the beach park and floating water park that really make this property stand out.

Location

The TradeWinds Island Grand Beach Resort is located on St. Pete Beach, which is part of Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area. Specifically, St. Pete Beach is a city located on a barrier island east of St. Petersburg, which is on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

St. Pete Beach is 13 miles from St. Petersburg Clearwater International Airport and 21 miles from Tampa International Airport.

Reflexes

Florida’s Gulf Coast is known for its white sand beaches. As if a beautiful stretch of fine, sugary sand weren’t enough to attract families, the resort’s 20-acre Splash Island Water Park is a magnet for kids. On the beach, there are several huge inflatable slides, as well as some beach games, like the corn hole and the paddleball. Use of these attractions is included in the mandatory resort fee paid by all guests.

There are also a number of fun features in a 15,000-square-foot floating water park whose features are anchored right off the beach. Includes water trampolines, climbing inflatables, and other toys. Use of these attractions is not included in the resort fee and incurs an additional fee.

The resort offers a variety of other attractions for families, including paddle boats that can be pedaled along a waterway that runs through the property; mini golf; diving movies in the pool; Volleyball and other games. There are also five pools on the complex, including an adults-only pool, two oceanfront pools, and a children’s pool near a kids’ club.

What is included and what is not

In addition to the room rate, guests pay a resort fee of $ 45 per room, per night. This fee gives guests access to some, but not all, of the water park features.

The resort fee includes:

  • 200ft high tide inflatable slide on the beach
  • Surf Wipeout, an inflatable surf challenge
  • rowing boats on inland waterways
  • pirate family show
  • Walks on the beach
  • fishing forums
  • conversations about sea turtles
  • use of gyms
  • s’mores by the campfire
  • tennis
  • Beach volleyball
  • mini golf
  • beach games (paddleball, bocce ball, corn hole)

  • guest wi-fi

Notably, however, the resort fee does not give guests access to the floating water park, which incurs an additional entrance fee of $ 16 per hour, per person. Guests must weigh more than 30 pounds and be at least 40 inches tall, but children between 40 and 45 inches must be accompanied by an adult. For a family of four, it would cost $ 64 for a single hour of fun. Note that the water park is also open to the public with paid admission, so it can get a bit crowded with non-hotel guests.

The characteristics of the floating water park:

  • two water slides that drop riders into the Gulf
  • inflatable climbing rafts
  • large inflatable loungers
  • Running, playing and sunbathing mats and landing strips.
  • four person balance beam for competitions

Other activities that are available for a fee include stand-up paddle boarding, sea kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing excursions.

The floating water park is open Friday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm, weather and water conditions permitting.

Keep in mind:

  • the daily resort fee covers some but not all activities at the resort
  • access to the floating water park carries an additional charge per person per hour
  • most water sports are available at a surcharge
