Tsunoda hopes to share a team with Verstappen "in the future"

The Japanese driver made his debut in the highest category of motorsport in the 2021 season with the AlphaTauri team, the Red Bull subsidiary and the site chosen to train his young promises until he found a place in the main team.

Yuki Tsunoda managed to finish third in his time in Formula 2 with Carlin, adding three wins and seven podiums, one more than they say a letter of introduction for the Milton Keynes structure. However, a year full of problems in his Formula 1 debut raised doubts about the performance of the first driver from the country of the rising sun since Kamui Kobayashi in 2014.

At the start of this season, the rider from AlphaTauri seems to have regained the confidence he showed aboard the Dallara in the run-up to the Grand Circus, as he managed to be ahead of his teammate, the experienced Pierre Gasly, in the general classification thanks to his 11 points .

Hoping one day to join the main team that gave him the opportunity to enter Formula 1, Tsunoda continues to pursue his dream of being a champion, even with what is considered the best driver today, the current holder of the title, Max Verstappen.

“Of course I want to be world champion,” he said in an interview with RacingNews365 . “It would be nice to race with Max [Verstappen], I think he’s the best on the grid at the moment, just like me of course!”

“It would be very good if I can be with him, and if I want to fulfill my goal of winning the title, I have to beat him. If you do, you can feel like one of the best drivers in Formula 1,” said the Japanese.

“Max is kind of someone to watch out for, he’s a driver that I look up to, and I hope to be in the same team with him in the future,” revealed Yuki Tsunoda.

Despite the fact that the renewal of Sergio Pérez closes the doors of Red Bull, at least until the end of the 2024 season, the Japanese does not give up his hopes, and acknowledges that Pierre Gasly helped him a lot in his growth .

“I learned a lot from him with his driving, but especially off the track, how he prepares for the race. There was a big difference between his preparation and mine at the start of last year,” Tsunoda said. “All those things I have learned and they have developed me as a driver, we have a good relationship outside the circuit, and that also helps.”

In addition to all that, the little driver wanted to praise the figure of the Red Bull sports advisor, Helmut Marko , who has always been criticized for his harshness with members of his development program: “I love him. He can be strict when it comes to It’s about racing, but I think his approach to explaining things to young drivers is very good.”
