The registered death toll after a corona outbreak in a Rudolstadt nursing home continues to rise. 28 people are now affected, most of them not fully vaccinated.
Rudolstadt – The devastating corona outbreak in a nursing home in Rudolstadt in Thuringia is taking on ever larger dimensions. As of Tuesday, 28 fatalities were registered there, as a spokeswoman for the operator announced.
A total of 22 of them did not have full vaccination protection. According to the district office, a third of the 140 residents were not vaccinated. In the past few days there have been repeated reports: the district office had only reported 18 deaths on Friday.
Lauterbach: “Total irrationality”
The case had caused nationwide reactions at the weekend. The designated health minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) had reacted horrified and spoke of “complete irrationality”. According to the Thuringian Ministry of Health, there had been sufficient vaccination offers in the home. The tragic events had their origin in the deliberate rejection of the vaccination by residents and their relatives, a spokeswoman said.
The FDP group in the Thuringian state parliament, however, views the mandatory vaccination for staff in nursing homes planned in the federal government. “We risk that the particularly endangered people are lulled into a false sense of security,” said spokesman Thomas Kemmerich on Tuesday. Currently, 83 percent of the over 60-year-olds in Thuringia are vaccinated. That is where it is to start. “The motto must be: Vaccinate the right ones! First and foremost, these are the endangered people themselves. ”Dpa
