A vaccination against corona protects against severe disease. Diseases after vaccination cannot be completely ruled out – four symptoms occur.
London – The vaccination campaign is making great strides in Germany. 44 percent of adults in Germany have received at least their first vaccination. The vaccinations offer protection against the course of the disease and symptoms of a corona infection, so vaccinated people are 94 percent less likely to be admitted to hospital after an infection. But there is still a residual risk, even vaccinated people can become infected.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the vaccines in Germany prevent infection “to a considerable extent”. The likelihood that a person with full vaccination will still test positive is low – but not zero.
Corona vaccination: study from London analyzes the course of the disease
A study from Great Britain examined how likely a corona infection is even after a vaccination. The data of 1.1 million people who received their vaccination between December 2020 and mid-May 2021 were evaluated. 2,278 people who received their first vaccination later tested positive, about 0.2 percent. The effect is even clearer in people with complete vaccination protection: Only 187 people tested positive after the second vaccination – that is, only 0.03 percent.
It was also checked which corona symptoms the infected people developed. The result: The symptoms typical of Corona were less common in all vaccinated people. However, there are four exceptions, which occurred to the same extent or even more frequently.

Four symptoms also occur after a vaccination against corona
More infected people who had been vaccinated complained of frequent sneezing. This symptom was 24 percent more common than in unvaccinated people. Shortness of breath, which often leads to hospital admissions, also occurred – but only in a mild form. In addition, it is not clear how often the shortness of breath was caused by diseases other than corona.
A classic corona symptom is tinnitus – at least in people without vaccination protection. The vaccinated, on the other hand, suffered more from earache when they became infected with corona. Eventually, swollen lymph nodes were found to be increasing. However, this is a sign that the body is generally taking action against a pathogen and that the immune system is active. The lymph nodes are swollen with colds.

The conclusion of the researchers from King’s College in London: Corona vaccination offers protection against symptoms in most cases. And even if there are signs of infection, most of the time they are only weakened. Nevertheless, the warning remains: If you notice symptoms even after a vaccination, you should get tested. Because infected people can continue to transmit Corona. (spr)
