More and more men are undergoing vasectomy , a simple and safe method of contraception for men. This increase in the number of patients could be associated with the confidence that, after the intervention, the man does not suffer any impairment in his sexual relations.
This has been determined by the latest study from the Stanford University School of Medicine in California (USA) whose study concludes that vasectomy does not reduce sexual frequency in couples. To do this, the researchers analyzed data from cycles 6 (2002) and 7 (2006 to 2008) of the National Survey of Family Growth in order to compare the frequency of sexual relations of men who had undergone vasectomy and those that don’t.
Of the 5,838 men, 353 had undergone vasectomy. Analysis of the data revealed that the average frequency of intercourse for men who had undergone the intervention was 5.9 times per month compared to men who had undergone vasectomy. In fact, comparing both groups, men with vasectomies were 81% more likely to have sex at least once a week than those who had not had a vasectomy, taking into account age, marital status, race, education, health, body mass index, children in the family and income.
Regarding the female partners, of the 5,211 women, of whom 670 had undergone vasectomy , the frequency of monthly sex was 6.3 times compared to those couples in which the man had not come for this intervention (6.0 times a month). .
” This finding may be of use to couples considering contraceptive options,” explains David P. Guo, leader of the work.
The study has been published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine .
