Sebastian Vettel loves racing cars, and holds them in even higher regard if they have a winning record or a special narrative, such as being the initial spark of a dynasty.
This weekend, Formula 1 contests the French Grand Prix, which will be held at Paul Ricard . Aston Martin’s expectations are always the same: try to go forward with the latest updates, in order to try to compensate for the start of the season, which fell far short of expectations.
“The high-speed corners at Paul Ricard should take on more dimension with these ground-effect cars, while the low-speed corners will be a challenge for everyone,” the team said.
“The previous weekends haven’t always been kind to us for one reason or another, so it would be nice to pick up some momentum before the summer break.”
But this year is special for Aston Martin. The team celebrates the centenary of its racing debut in 1922 with the famous TT1 , affectionately nicknamed ‘Green Pea’, which was powered by a 16-valve engine .
It is that single-seater, completely colored green, with which he made his debut at the French Grand Prix, which was held that year in Strasbourg .
The car took fifth position, ahead of its sibling, the TT2, which was just behind in sixth, before engine failure forced them to retire. The two cars would not compete again until the following year, when their owners were forced to sell them to private individuals due to financial problems.
That car, which has already been seen in action at the Goodwood Festival , will be driven by Sebastian Vettel in Paul Ricard, after the German has already paid tribute to Nigel Mansell, racing at Silverstone at the wheel of the Williams FW14B with which the Brit won the world title in 1992.
“I am passionate about the history of this sport, so it will be very special to drive one of the original 1922 Aston Martin cars during this weekend’s Grand Prix,” said the German.
