Video: accident and KO of Sainz in Imola qualifying

After a promising single free practice session on Friday at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the Ferraris were very happy to promise each other after leading with a solid one-two finish, making them the clear favorites in the fight for pole position for the sprint race.

During Q2, Carlos Sainz took to the track as soon as possible to set a time that would allow him to make the cut, as rain threatened to make an appearance at Imola. Just when he was setting the best times, the man from Madrid lost control of his F1-75 and went into the wall, being forced to end qualifying early.

The Ferrari driver was hoping to get the first pole position of his career and, moreover, to do it in one of the houses of the Prancing Horse . When he was about to face the main straight he lost the rear of the car and that caused him to go directly into the wall, thus ending all options.

Sainz expressed his happiness when he arrived at the track after learning the news of the renewal, and this accident is a severe blow to his confidence after the criticism he received for abandoning the last Australian Grand Prix, where he got stuck in the run-off of gravel while trying to climb.

That is precisely what he will have to do in Sunday’s race, since he will start from a further back area on the grid for not having been able to be present in Q3, that is if he does not manage to move up the positions in the sprint test on Saturday, in which he can be more aggressive to minimize damage for the main event.
