Video: Joan Mir's crash on the first lap of the Austrian GP

Joan Mir has gone to the ground in a spectacular crash while competing in the Austrian GP race. The Suzuki rider ended up on the outside gravel of turn four on the opening lap of the race.

The former MotoGP world champion was riding in seventh position when he lost control of his bike. The Suzuki spat into the air, and when he hit the asphalt he hurt one of his ankles, having to go to the medical center.

Mir is not completing a brilliant year, far from it. The Spanish rider accumulates six zeros, and has not been able to get on the podium in any of the Grand Prix contested so far. Before the Austrian GP began, Joan was in 12th position in the general classification, 103 points behind the leader Fabio Quartararo.

2022 is also the campaign in which he will say goodbye to Suzuki, after the Japanese factory has announced its departure from the championship at the end of the year.

Currently, Joan Mir is without a seat for the 2023 season, although there are many voices in the paddock that place him close to reaching an agreement to fill the vacancy of Pol Espargaró at Repsol Honda.

If confirmed, both Suzuki riders (Alex Rins and Joan himself) would go to the same factory, since the number #42 has already made his signing official for the LCR.
