With the weather giving Formula 1 a truce after raining all morning constantly at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari Autodrome, the single-seaters positioned themselves in their starting boxes with intermediate compounds and prepared to contest the fourth race of the season .
Due to the delicate conditions of the track, with some dry areas and others still wet, it was evident that the first meters of the race were not going to be a walk for any of the pilots and proof of this was the different scuffles that were experienced in the first curve.
Carlos Sainz was the big loser after one of the McLarens, Daniel Ricciardo’s, touched him from behind. The Spanish Ferrari driver lost control of his car and spun, seeing his F1-75 inevitably go into the gravel, saying goodbye to the race early for the second consecutive grand prix.
After an accident on Friday in qualifying that forced him to start from tenth position in the sprint race on Saturday, the Madrid driver managed to recover and climb to fourth position after 21 laps of a short race that made up the grid of the Sunday.
With his motivation recovered and with the desire to leave behind the abandonment of the Australian GP, Carlos Sainz faced the race with the aim of achieving another podium and recovering feelings, but unfortunately for him his options went to waste in the first corner.
Both the McLaren of Lando Norris and the Daniel Ricciardo , who were behind him, made a great start, putting both Ferrari drivers in a bind, who struggled in the opening meters. With the four very even in the first corner, the gaps were scarce and finally it was the Australian who was too optimistic, touching the right rear of Sainz’s car, which is why he spun and went straight into the gravel, without any option to return to the track and adding his second consecutive zero at the start of 2022.
