In the decisive moments of qualifying for the 2022 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, all the drivers were on the limit, and that caused a multiple accident before entering the tunnel.
On his final fastest lap attempt, Sergio Pérez lost control of his Red Bull, blocking part of the track while the rest were going at top speed. Carlos Sainz was the Mexican’s pursuer at the time, and as it was a blind corner he couldn’t see the RB18 in the middle of the track.

The man from Madrid tried to avoid Checo, but also lost the rear of the Ferrari, hitting the Red Bull. This forced everyone behind to immediately stop at the accident site, as it was impossible to pass into the tunnel.
At the time of the press conference after qualifying, the Spaniard from the Maranello team explained what happened, and that is that the yellow flags were not enough to avoid the Mexican. Sainz, arriving at the corner, due to his speed, could not see that the stewards were waving the yellow flags, so it was impossible for him to avoid the car that was against the wall.
Likewise, Fernando Alonso also collided with his Alpine on the descent of Mirabeau , going too far under braking at turn 5. When he was trying to improve his time, the man from Oviedo got stuck in the protections, so he will have to settle for the seventh final place, something that should put him in a good place to score points.
The Spaniard blocked the front tires in his fastest turn and, by countersteering his car, he slid in an insurmountable way towards the wall so feared in the layout of the small country of the Côte d’Azur.
This is the second time in a row that qualifying in Monaco ends with a red flag, and it is that in 2021 , curiously the author of the pole position on both occasions, Charles Leclerc , hit the guardrail at the chicane of the pool. It did not go well for him, since the damage to his car did not allow him to start Sunday’s race, but in 2022 he will have the golden opportunity to make up for it and finish a Formula 1 race at home for the first time.
