After a start in which Carlos Sainz failed to get close to his teammate and neither to the two Red Bulls, he remained fourth at the wheel of his F1-75, although with a considerably slower pace than that of his rivals, falling little by little further away from the podium positions.
However, his race ended early when a mechanical failure on lap 10 once again affected the reliability of his car. A hydraulic problem, as confirmed by Ferrari, forced him to take one of the loopholes in the first sector, and Sainz explained by radio that something had gone wrong with the car.
The Madrid driver was unable to return to action and ended up abandoning the race, adding a new zero that will seriously harm his aspirations for the 2022 Formula 1 season, in which for the first time in his career, he has a car that he can fight for victories and, obviously, also for the title.
This was the Sainz incident in the Baku race at the 2022 F1 Azerbaijan GP
After this mechanical failure, the Spaniard left Charles Leclerc as the only Ferrari piece on the track, fighting against Sergio Pérez and Max Verstappen with a different strategy, as the Monegasque driver took advantage of the Sainz incident to pit, while the Red Bulls stayed on track.
After this new abandonment, Carlos Sainz adds his third zero of the season after the incident that left him out of the race at the beginning of the Australian GP and at Imola and, if he finished the race with Verstappen , Pérez and Leclerc on the podium, the Madrilenian will lose a lot of ground in the fight for the title, in which he is currently already 42 points behind.
