The Yamaha rider will change for the second time since his arrival at the Japanese house of chief mechanic. Viñales inherited Jorge Lorenzo ‘s technical manager when he replaced the three-time world champion in the blue box at the beginning of 2017, but after two seasons of disagreements, in August 2018, he announced that he was going to do without Forcada and that his good friend Esteban García was going to replace him in the 2019 academic year.
García, with whom he was Moto3 world champion, has only lasted two seasons and so far this season before Maverick replaced him with the veteran Galbusera , whom Rossi fired at the end of 2019 after assuring that he had been finished the ideas and that “we were stuck”, sending him to the Yamaha test team with Jorge Lorenzo , in 2020, and now with Cal Crutchlow .
As Motorsport.com has been able to confirm, although Yamaha ask for caution and that we wait until this Thursday for an official announcement, Galbusera will already be in the Maverick box this weekend, who last Sunday already blamed his team for the problems tuning on the bike.
Galbusera already visited the Yamaha box last weekend during the Italian Grand Prix , warmly greeting Maverick, although it was not until today when the news, filtered by the tuning fork brand’s test team, has risen to the surface.
Who is Galbusera?
The new technician from Viñales has extensive experience that debuted in the World Championship in 1979, working for fourteen seasons in the 250cc category with riders such as Alessandro Gramigni and Paolo Casoli, before moving on to African raids, including Paris-Dakar, with Michele Rinaldi . In 1994 he returned to the World Championship in the 500cc category enrolled in the Cagiva team together with John Kocinski .
Galbusera joined Yamaha after that stage, where he remained until 2011 as both technical chief and Technical Director in the Superbike and Supersport World Championships, along with riders such as Troy Corser , Noriyuki Haga, Cal Crutchlow and Ben Spies , achieving multiple victories. as well as the World Superbikes in 2009. In 2012 and 2013 he worked together with Marco Melandri in the BMW Superbikes team.
At the end of 2013, after breaking up with his longtime coach, Jeremy Burgess, Valentino Rossi announced the signing of Galbusera, who was his technical boss until 2019, when he was replaced by the young Spaniard David Muñoz , in 2020.
The last two years Galbusera has worked on the Yamaha test team, with Lorenzo (2020) now Crutchlow.
