The Spaniard completed a very good first free practice session at the start of the Portuguese weekend, managing to qualify provisionally for Q2, which would offer him the opportunity to get a good classification on the starting grid, the goal he is pursuing for this Sunday in Portimao .
“The objective of the day was to be provisionally classified for Q2, because the conditions can be changeable tomorrow and it makes your work very difficult. Above all, the most important thing this weekend is to achieve a good classification and start as early as possible on the grid. We are very focused on doing a good lap to see if we can get a good row on the grid.”
In his first full year with Aprilia, Maverick Viñales is still adapting to the bike, but conditions like this weekend in Portimao could represent an opportunity to seek a good result.
“It is clear that we would like to be at the front, but I think we are building something and we are doing it well, and what we want is that when we manage to be at the front it is to always be there, not just for one day. I am not saying to win all the races, but regularly being in the top 3 or 5”.
“Personally I would have preferred a weekend with normal weather, with calm to continue testing and working to improve, but seeing how this Friday has gone, if an opportunity arises it will be taken advantage of for sure.”
A possibility that does not distract the Aprilia from the path marked out at the beginning of the course.
“We are meeting the deadlines, I set Jerez (next week) as the deadline to fully adapt to the bike, I am getting better and better on the bike and I feel stronger”, settles the boy from the Costa Brava.
