VR46 announces the renewal of Marini for the 2023 MotoGP season

It was a mere formality that came in the form of an official announcement this Monday, when the Mooney VR46 Racing Team released a statement to certify the continuity, next season, of the young rider Luca Marini, who thus secures a seat in the premier class for the third consecutive year.

Marini, 25, made his MotoGP debut in the 2021 season, after five courses in Moto2, where he finished runner-up in 2020, riding a Ducati from the Avintia team, which gave part of the box to the structure of Valentino Rossi, before definitively transfer the two places to him this year.

In his first year in the premier class, the Italian’s best result was fifth place in Austria, equaled this year with a fifth position in Germany, improving his results in the last two races, again Austria and the San Marino Grand Prix. , in which he was fourth, touching his first podium in MotoGP.

Marini, whose representation is led by the Academy VR46, the same company that manages the team, rose from Moto2 with a one-year contract for 2021, renewing with a 1+1 format last season, with which the clause of the second year that he had an option, coinciding with his best results.

“I am very happy to be able to announce the renewal with the Mooney VR46 Racing Team also for 2023,” explains Marini in a note released by the team.

“It is important to give continuity to this work group and to the Ducati project that is leading us to obtain good results and fight for the podium at the end of the season. We are a rookie team, it is the first year that we have all worked together, and we will continue to use this method to achieve great satisfaction already in this 2022 and in the future together with Vale, whom I thank for this opportunity, and the VR46 Riders Academy that always supports me”, adds the rider.

“Closing the current season in the best possible way and restarting strongly next January is the objective: we want to fight for the positions that matter, the podium and the victory in each GP and as the best Independent Team in the Championship”, ditch the boy from Tavullia.

The situation of his teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, was different, since this year’s rookie arrived in the premier class with a two-year contract that was reconfirmed last week, so he will complete the Mooney VR46 Racing Team line-up in 2023.
