The young Italian rider, a member of the Valentino Rossi Academy for years, made the leap to MotoGP earlier this season with a two-year contract, until the end of 2023. However, both the official website of the championship, as well as many media, they expected a confirmation of its continuity next year. Faced with doubts about Marco Bezzecchi’s contractual situation, the team pulled humor and published a video on their social networks this Thursday, in which the runner himself appears in the office of Uccio Salucchi , the main team of the structure, and Pablo Nieto , sports director, asking what they are going to do with him next season. “You have a two-year contract,” Uccio replies.
“I am very happy to be able to confirm and announce, at the same time, that the contract signed last fall was structured in two seasons and that in 2023 I will continue to race for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team riding a Ducati,” Bezzecchi explains in a statement.
“Very proud also to be able to wear and represent the colors of the VR46 family, of Vale and of the VR46 Riders Academy, who have always supported me together with all the teammates and personal”, adds the young Italian.
“We started with a completely new team, rookies in every way, with many technicians coming from Moto2, others with new functions, and we are satisfied with what we have done so far this season. We remain focused on 2022, closing this first year in MotoGP best possible before facing the new season”, he concludes.
Bezzecchi is completing a more than remarkable debut season in the premier class, culminating with the second place achieved in the Grand Prix of the Netherlands and five top 10 finishes, the fifth place in Mugello, three 9th in Argentina, Jerez and Austria and the 10th from Silverstone, which places him 14th overall as the best rookie of the year so far.
Following Bezzecchi’s confirmation, the Rossi-owned team will announce, in the coming days, the continuity of Luca Marini, who last year signed a deal for 2022 with an option for 2023 that will run to keep the current pair of drivers in the lineup.
