Warsaw, Poland, which has taken great risks in hosting a Gay Pride event in recent years due to an order not to do so from Poland's homophobic former President Lech Kaczynski, was the host of EuroPride not too long ago. This was an especially exciting and crucial time for GLBT rights not only in Poland but also in Eastern Europe in general, and the large turnout helped shed light on the issues of gays and lesbians in this somewhat conservative country. Warsaw Gay Pride takes place in mid-June: the date for 2016 is Saturday, June 11.
