Pictures of destroyed houses and people sitting in bunkers from the Ukraine war go around the world every day. But there is also news that gives hope.
Kyiv – “Life goes on! And we will protect the life of Kyiv, the Kievans, our state,” Vitali Klitschko writes under a video recently posted on his Instagram page. The two-minute clip shows the wedding of a female soldier and a male soldier in the middle of the escalating Ukraine conflict* near a checkpoint in Kyiv.
The ceremony seems a long way from a wedding in non-war times: the bride is not wearing a white dress, but her army uniform. The groom has a helmet on his head. The bystanders, including Vitali Klitschko, are wearing bulletproof vests. The atmosphere during the ceremony is like a mix of tension and joy: she smiles, he looks serious. With their hands on their hearts, those present sing the national anthem. Congratulations, then laughs.

War in Ukraine: Seven couples of soldiers marry with the support of army colleagues
The couple in the video is not the only couple of soldiers who exchange vows during the Ukraine war. As the Ukrainian National Guard wrote on Instagram, a total of seven guard couples got married in just a few days. The images appear as if they are from another world: the newlyweds are in love in front of wartime barricades. No flowers, no family members, but the army colleagues are often represented. According to the National Guard, one of the brides is said to have said that love also has its place in war.

The wedding pictures aren’t the only news giving hope after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Under his Instagram post, Klitschko also refers to 457 babies born in Kyiv in the past ten days *. (Monja Stolz) *hna.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
