What foods produce a foul smell?

The fault lies, above all, with the so-called volatile sulfur compounds (CSV) . These are chemical substances that contain carbon, easily transform into vapors or gases and are present in foods such as garlic, onion, broccoli, aged cheese or cauliflower . The bad smell can be multiplied if spicy , alcohol or high-calorie and processed foods are eaten because they contribute to increased sweating.

If a lot of carbohydrates are added to the usual diet, the repulsive aroma is almost guaranteed, which, according to a group of scientists from the Department of Psychology at Macquarie University (Australia) led by researcher Andrea Zúñiga, can even ruin a love affair. In an analysis of men's armpit sweat and its effect on women, it was found that pasta, sweets and soft drinks drove them away , while the one that is exhaled after having eaten fruits and vegetables pleased them much more .

Their study, published a few months ago by the journal Evolution & Human Behavior , was conducted with non-smoking women between 18 and 30 years old, who classified the aroma generated by the most 'vegan' men as "floral, fruity, sweet and medicinal" . One of the indicative signs that the male volunteers were inclined towards foods of plant origin was the color of their skin, which was more yellowish or orange due to the presence of carotenoids, a natural pigment abundant in fruits and vegetables.
