Dorylus gribodoi is the scientific name for one of the 60 species of ants that inhabit Africa. Also known as siafu ants (their name in Swahili), warrior ants, legionary ants or marabunta , these insects gather in colonies of up to 20 million individuals that march en masse in search of food and devastate everything in their path . They are capable of killing and eating even animals the size of a small zebra. There is even evidence that children and the elderly have been attacked.
Their bite is so strong and persistent that the natives use these animals as stitches . They bring the edges of the wound closer together and let the ant bite. Then they remove the body of the ant and leave only the head.
