What is an electric car and how is it driven?

We find more and more electric vehicles on our roads. Either because of the traffic restrictions due to pollution , which push us to bet on alternatives to internal combustion engines, or because of our own conscience, which begins to wake up understanding the importance of the fight against pollution; The truth is that electric companies have a little more presence on the streets of our country every day.

To be honest, it is true that, to this day, there is no vehicle model that is totally ecological. In fact, electric vehicles also pollute even though they are smoke-free cars, since cleaning does not depend only on their operation, but it is also about achieving the complete compatibility of the car throughout its life cycle, which includes the development of the raw materials and components, as well as vehicle assembly in factories. The main objective is to be able to use green energy in all phases where possible. However, until this moment, both electric and hybrid are some of the best options today in terms of polluting emissions, considerably lower than those of equivalent combustion models.

Less maintenance

On the other hand, by dispensing with a traditional engine and a traditional gearshift with a clutch, they will suffer fewer mechanical breakdowns, since there are very few moving elements and, therefore, exposed to wear in an electric. In addition, its maintenance is reduced to a check of the batteries and electric motors from time to time, forgetting about components such as filters. Not to mention the tax advantages they have, especially in big cities like Madrid or Barcelona.

To drive it, the first thing to take into account is that the initial movement force is instantaneous and, as a consequence, the acceleration is greater than in a traditional combustion vehicle, which means that they go at maximum power starting from zero revolutions, which is why you have to try to drive more smoothly, on tofo during the first few meters of the journey. It is also important to remember that most current models have an energy recovery system that recharges the batteries by slightly releasing the accelerator, thus reducing speed. In the case of a conventional car, on the other hand, you have to press the brakes gently to obtain the same result.

How do they work

The propulsion system of an electric car is made up of one or more electric motors, which feed on the energy stored in a rechargeable battery, transforming the electrical into mechanical ones. Said battery, for its part, is recharged by plugging the vehicle into an electrical outlet or thanks to a self-regeneration system, especially during braking.

This type of propulsion is precisely what makes electric vehicles offer certain advantages over combustion vehicles . Without going any further, one of the great benefits they entail is the zero emissions of polluting gases during their operation, helping to maintain respect for the environment. As it is electric, it also does not consume any fuel, which translates into significant fuel savings.
