Fever or elevation of body temperature above 37.2 ºC is a reaction of the body to stop the infection caused by a virus or bacteria , since these do not usually thrive in hyperthermic environments, that is, with excessive heat.
Its presence is detected by white blood cells, which inform the hypothalamus – the body thermostat – to raise the temperature.
The temperature of the human being usually oscillates between 35 ºC and 37 ºC , when this barrier is exceeded one has a fever. It is a normal immune response, but when it gets out of control and the temperature is excessive (above 40.5º C), serious damage can occur. Vital proteins are compromised, cellular stress, heart attacks and other serious complications occur.
