If you're under the age of 55, consuming too much coffee each day can seriously harm your health , according to a study just published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings . Based on data from 43,000 subjects collected over 16 years, the study authors identified an increase in all-cause mortality of 21% in those who consumed more than 28 cups of coffee a week . The percentage increased to 50% when it came to men and women under 55 years of age . However, in smaller doses, this drink can be healthy, since it can be one of the greatest sources of antioxidants in the diet, with potential benefits to combat inflammation and improve cognitive function.
From the study, the scientists conclude that young people should not drink normal coffee in doses that exceed four cups a day (28 cups a week).
