The last few hours have been absolutely hectic for Genshin Impact. The miHoYo title became one of the great sensations of 2020 and its wake has not faded so far in 2021.
However, his popularity has not been as desired lately. #boycottgenshin is the hashtag that has gone viral on Twitter, which is an extensive collection of complaints from users and players of the title.
The exact origin of the discussion is not clear , but the course of the same has been directed towards details, stereotypes and representations in the game that have been accused of being racist. One of the critical points is that of Hilichurls, one of the most common enemies of Genshin Impact .
As can be seen in the following video on the development of the title, a person from the team is working on its modeling, using as a reference another video from an indigenous tribe . From minute 1:30 you can see it.
User complaints
Regarding this issue, there have been several users who have raised their voices through the platform. One of them is that of this person who claims to be indigenous and that the inspiration of the Hilichurls is not the most appropriate when it comes to respecting their people.
i want to talk about the #BOYCOTTGENSHIN tag. as an a indigenous person, i just want to say that the hilichurls being inspired by indigenous people is absolutely not okay. people used to laugh at their dance and just people (including me) now finding out about this is really +

I want to talk about it. As an indigenous person, I just want to say that hilichurls that are inspired by indigenous people are not at all okay. People used to laugh at her dancing and people (including me) are now finding out that this is really +
hurtful. it makes us feel like we are being mocked for something that means so much to us. our culture is not something for you to take and just use mihoyo. it is not okay, its not funny, and im really disappointed. alot of us are.

hurtful. It makes us feel like we’re being teased for something that means so much to us. Our culture is not something for you to take and use MiHoYo. It’s not cool, it’s not funny, and I’m really disappointed. Many of us are.
There have also been accusations against the company for its way of representing other companies, such as the Asian one , since it is viewed from a Western point of view.
#BOYCOTTGENSHIN? Really? Isn’t it inherently racist of westerners to force their “representation” in a game that’s mostly repping Asian culture? Funny how they keep making Xinyan black when she’s a tanned asian-a great representation against the white is beautiful asian mentality

The complaints have spread to other areas. For example, another Twitter account shared the fact that in Honkai Impact 3rd, another miHoYo title , insults are included between the dialogues and conversations of the characters.
// R slur
While we’re on the topic of the horrible things mihoyo have done, can we talk about how they add slurs in their game for no reason?? I literally just noticed this while replaying some of the stages. This isnt the only example either.. pic.twitter.com/97aIt2zXZk

Complaints have also been professed on extremely thorny issues such as possible pedophilia between Barbara and Flora, two female characters who appear to be underage, and two other male NPCs who desire them.

Regarding the case of Flora, the phrase of the NPC is that “I will confess my love to Flora aboard a ship of dandelions”. This phrase was already in a previous version of Genshin Impact , when Flora’s model was that of an adult woman. Despite this, miHoYo has not yet withdrawn that dialogue .
The Genshin Impact thread on Reddit has also become abuzz with opinions and debates about everything that is happening. Of course, and how could it be otherwise, there are other users who have shown their disagreement with this kind of posture .

I still have no idea how this picture is considered racist, she’s just wearing a punk rock-esque outfit and called fierce due to her appearance. If race is all you see, that’s a reach. And this is coming from a black person. #boycottgenshin #dobettermihoyo pic.twitter.com/S5WXs5WjMZ

One of the accusations to dismiss the rise of this hashtag is that everything would originate from the fact that the next DLC of the game points to being delayed , as pointed out by ResetEra. In this way, it would simply be a way of showing frustration with the decision.
#boycottgenshin It rubs me the wrong way that some of you decided to call out the things that mihoyo had done BECAUSE of inazuma’s delay and them wanting to earn more money, you could’ve done this any other day.
— VIVI 🔶 (@kreldeprince)
It bothers me that some of you decided to talk about the things myHoYo had done AS A result of the Inazuma [DLC] delay and they wanted to make more money, you could have done it any other day.
Be that as it may, we will see if all this movement has some kind of future repercussion. Not only for the Chinese studio, but for the industry in general and other companies.
