When a disco is cleared after corona violations, panic breaks out

In a corona hotspot, of all places, a club operator is said to have not adequately checked the vaccination status of its guests. A party with the motto “Celebrate like before” ends differently than planned.

Friesoythe – When the authorities ordered the evacuation of a large discotheque, panic broke out among the guests. Several people fainted or hyperventilated, the police said after the deployment in Friesoythe in the Cloppenburg district.

The district had the club closed and evacuated on Saturday night due to violations of the Corona rules. When there was a crowd in the hallways, the police opened the emergency exits. The disco had invited to a 2G party on Friday under the motto “Celebrate like before”. After the eviction, paramedics and psychologists looked after people with health problems. The large-scale operation for the police, public order office and rescue workers lasted several hours.

The organizers of the party did not adequately check whether the visitors had actually been vaccinated or recovered at the entrance, said district spokesman Frank Beumker on Sunday of the dpa. Contact tracking was also not ensured. The disco was also “clearly overcrowded”. The authorities initially did not provide any information on the number of guests. The district forbade the operator to open on Saturday and initiated fine proceedings. Further legal steps would be examined, it said. At first, the operator did not respond to a dpa request.

The disco itself canceled the next party for Saturday via social media and announced that it would “coordinate the further procedure regarding admission and security with regard to the latest corona development” with the authorities. The seven-day incidence in the district of Cloppenburg was 341.8 on Sunday – this is the highest value in Lower Saxony. 2G parties without a minimum distance and without a mask are possible according to the Lower Saxony Corona Ordinance. In addition, schoolchildren up to the age of 18 are allowed to celebrate because they have to be tested regularly at school.

The violations were noticed during a routine check, said the district spokesman: “We have been on the road for weeks and months and control various areas.” Various factors are held responsible for the high incidence values in the district of Cloppenburg. On the one hand, there are companies in the meat industry with workers who are regularly tested. On the other hand, the district of Cloppenburg is one of the youngest regions in Germany – a corresponding number of residents are under twelve and cannot yet be vaccinated.

The situation in the hospitals is tense, said the spokesman. Of 24 corona patients in two clinics in the district, according to an evaluation at the beginning of this month, 20 were not vaccinated at all and two were incompletely vaccinated. dpa
