Houstonians love to eat out, and brunch is no exception. In a city where southern comfort food, Tex-Mex seafood, and the Gulf Coast abound, there are great breakfast spots everywhere. But some places have really stepped up their brunch game. Here’s a sample of where to find some of the best lunches in the Houston metro.
Word of caution: These restaurants are the worst-kept brunch secrets in Houston and are almost always packed. Regardless of where you choose to go, plan to wait a bit to be seated if you go during peak hours.

The Dunlavy is easily one of the most visually stunning restaurants in Houston and could earn a spot on this list for aesthetics alone. The exterior walls of the dining room are made up almost entirely of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Buffalo Bayou Park, where views of the large sprawling live oak trees contrast with the dozens of chandeliers hanging inside. The result is a beautiful and relaxing environment that is a perfect complement to the restaurant’s equally surprising menu.
The brunch menu is available on Saturdays and Sundays and offers upscale brunch fare, like their salmon gravlax toast served with whipped cream cheese, at a fraction of the cost of other high-end breakfast spots.
Pro-tip: Finding parking nearby is a hassle. Opt to go on a ride-share like Uber or Lyft, or better yet, park in one of the lots near Sabine Bridge near downtown and use Bcycle, Houston’s bike-share program. It’s an easy and beautiful ride on the Buffalo Bayou Bike Trail, and there’s a bike docking station right next to the restaurant.

Located in the heart of the museum district, Lucille’s is a great place for those interested in having brunch before heading out to Hermann Park or visiting one of the many museums in the district.
The restaurant specializes in upscale southern cuisine, putting a high-end spin on classics like chili wafers, fried green tomatoes, and shrimp and grits. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays, and in good weather, customers can sit outside on the patio area behind the restaurant that is filled with trees and greenery.

For those who have a weakness for brunch buffets, Baba Yega has a nice one on Sundays. This all-you-can-eat variety has breakfast classics like waffles, eggs Benedict, made-to-order omelets, bacon, and potatoes. There’s a small salad bar complete with fresh fruit, as well as a dessert station stocked with dozens of sweets like chocolate covered strawberries.
The restaurant itself is reminiscent of an old renovated house. Customers are seated in several uniquely decorated dining rooms, including one with a real tree in the middle. Outside, there is a large covered patio that overlooks a fish pond, making it a great place to enjoy brunch outside, even on hot days.

Restaurants for breakfast and brunch
4.4
Baby Barnaby’s only eats breakfast, so naturally he does it really, really well. This beloved Montrose restaurant is a favorite with Ino Loopers for its delicious food and low-key atmosphere.
Among the most popular dishes are the green eggs (scrambled eggs mixed with spinach, artichoke hearts and cheese) and the classic Tex-Mex Migas, which are scrambled eggs with vegetables and tortilla strips.
Pro-tip: There is almost always a long wait on the weekends, expect to wait an hour or so, and there is no hostess position. When you arrive at the restaurant, put your name on the clipboard hanging on the patio to ensure your place in line.
If you can’t get to Baby Barnaby’s, or prefer not to wait in line to eat there, many of the breakfast items are also available at the other Barnaby’s locations.

For the many transplants from New Orleans to Houston, Brennan’s is a taste of home. This Midtown restaurant offers upscale Creole classics in an elegant setting. Brunch packages include your choice of appetizer, entree, and dessert, featuring Gulf Coast dishes like turtle soup, wood-fired oysters, and nut-crusted fish.
Like the upscale restaurants found in New Orleans’ French Quarter and Garden District, Brennan’s is set up as a series of dining rooms, each with its own unique name and style. The servers are knowledgeable and attentive, taking southern hospitality to a whole new level. The result is a warm and welcoming experience paired with high-quality food that is especially great for special occasions.
Pro-tip: For the same experience at a slightly lower price, try visiting Brennan’s during Houston Restaurant Weeks, when a limited brunch package is offered for just $ 20.

Hugo combines two of Houstonians’ favorites: Tex-Mex and seafood. The food and atmosphere are decidedly unique. The costs are on the higher end, but it’s definitely worth it if you’re willing to splurge.
On Saturdays you can order a brunch menu that includes items like grilled octopus, ceviche, and mole. While on Sundays we offer a complete buffet breakfast full of Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes, seafood and desserts.
Pro-tip: Come between 11am and 2pm on Sundays to listen to live music while you eat.

Another great downtown spot, Weights + Measures, offers a unique twist on traditional brunch dishes like avocado toast with green harissa and house smoked salmon with a truffle egg mix. However, what makes this place a must see is the bakery.
The pastry shop’s breads, cakes and desserts are some of the best in town. The berry and cream cheesecakes are light and flaky, the brownies are fudgy and loaded with chocolate, and the muffins are moist and full of plump fruit and crunchy nuts. Pair your baked treats or entrees with a custom-made latte or fresh-squeezed orange juice, and it’s a tasty yet ultra-casual brunch.
Bonus: there is ample parking in the lot, a rarity in Midtown.
