The biological basis for the relaxing effect of massage is not very well known. In general, pressure and skin tightening with the hands improve blood and lymphatic circulation . This favors the supply of oxygen and the elimination of toxic substances from the tissues . On the other hand, the massage relaxes the muscle and allows the reabsorption of lactic acid , a substance that is formed during intense exercise and that causes so-called soreness.
Nor should we forget that certain types of massage, because more than 80 different types are known, stimulate the sensitive nerve endings of the skin. Its excitation causes the emission of electrical impulses to the brain that, in response, releases endorphins, substances that trigger a sensation of pleasure.
