Sexual dysfunctions are problems that affect quality of life and relationships. To treat them, it is necessary to fully understand the factors involved in these processes and study how sexual desire evolves throughout a woman’s life.
Is the age? Is it the length of the romantic relationship? Are they factors related to the couple ? A team of researchers from the University of Turku, in Finland, has carried out a study to evaluate the changes in sexual function of a group of 2,173 women over 7 years. The work analyzed aspects such as sexual satisfaction, the ability to reach orgasm, arousal and pain during intercourse.
One of the most significant results reveals that the changes in the sentimental status of women throughout these seven years of study had an impact on several of the sexual functions analyzed. Specifically, women who had the same partner during that time experienced the sharpest drop in sexual desire. Those who had found a new partner had somewhat smaller decreases, while single women at the end of the study showed no difference in desire .
On the other hand, the authors also report that most of the aspects studied were highly variable throughout the seven years, especially sexual satisfaction . Furthermore, the initial state in sexual functions did not seem to significantly influence the end. However, other factors such as age, the length of the relationship and some variables associated with the partner also have an impact on female sexual function. Because of this, sexual dysfunctions should be treated individually for each case, taking into account all these factors, which are often interconnected, according to scientists.
Of all the functions studied, the ability of women to have an orgasm remained the most stable over time, and in all groups it improved, especially in those who were single at the end of the study.
