Downtown Pittsburgh offers two hours of free wireless Internet access to anyone visiting, working, or living downtown. WiFi Downtown Pittsburgh, first instituted on September 13, 2006, provides free wireless Internet access to downtown Golden Triange, Point State Park, the North Shore and the Lower Hill District. Free wireless internet access even includes PNC Park and Point State Park.
Downtown Pittsburgh WiFi is powered by US Wireless, and can be accessed anytime outdoors in the downtown Pittsburgh area. 802.11b / g WiFi access may work in some downtown Pittsburgh restaurants and other buildings, but is not guaranteed to work indoors. Good for any WiFi-enabled computer, portable or handheld device for up to two hours a day.
How to use WiFi Downtown Pittsburgh
Connecting step by step
- Locate the wireless icon on your desktop toolbar and right-click.
- Click on “Visible Wireless Networks”.
- Select “WiFi Pittsburgh” and click “Connect.”
- Once connected, click on your internet browser (you will receive the Downtown Pittsburgh WiFi page).
- If you are not yet registered, click on the “Register Now” box and follow the instructions.
- Once registered, you can surf the Internet anywhere outdoors in the center for two hours for free. The free two hours of Wi-Fi is good for a single 24-hour period.
- The next time you use the network, just enter your password and you are done.
If you need more than two hours free during a 24-hour period, US Wireless Online offers multiple levels of service with its US Wireless Online DayConnect service. DayConnect users receive 1 Mbps bandwidth, and also benefit from support VPN and other security encryption protocol.
