Men are more attractive to women while holding a guitar , as concluded by a French study coordinated by Nicolas Guéguen, from the University of Bretagne-Sud, and published in the journal Psychology of Music . In an experiment with an attractive 20-year-old young man, the researchers provoked encounters with women, in a third of the cases wearing a guitar case, in another similar percentage with a sports bag, and with nothing in their hands in the rest . When he was carrying the guitar case, 31% of women gave him their phone number when he asked, compared to only 9% who answered yes when carrying a gym bag.
The researchers say that the result confirms the theory that music plays an important role in sexual selection , and that in humans it is easier to seduce a potential partner if the person who is courting knows how to play a musical instrument and is holding it in their hands.
