The hour has come. After five years on the market, Overwatch finally receives cross-play between all platforms. This big change was announced a couple of weeks ago, but we did not know when it would take effect in the Blizzard title.
Wait no more, as the feature is now available to Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC players in beta. To access it, all you need to do is link your console account to the one you have on Battle.net, if you don’t already have it.
Among the particularities that we must take into account is that we will not be able to enable cross-play in all modes. It will only be available in Quickplay, Arcade, and Custom. This means that during competitive matches PC players will be separated from console players.
However, the latter will be able to keep cross-play active in fights with these characteristics. That is, the Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation communities will keep cross-play enabled at all times if each user wishes. For their part, PC players will not have the option to disable cross-play at any time, as it is automatic.
What remains long-term promise for now is crossover progression, a wish for the game echoed by Overwatch director Aaron Keller. “We understand that it is an option for you and it is something the team is looking forward to working on in the future.”
