If in these times of crisis you unfortunately lost your job and have an Infonavit loan, you should know that you have two alternatives to help you continue paying for your house.
The Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit) reported this Wednesday that borrowers can access a protection fund for unemployment payments and an extension for up to 24 months.
The first measure is for those people who, when they are unemployed, do not have sufficient resources and can only pay a part of their monthly credit.
The borrower may use the resources of this fund to complete the entirety of each payment and it is important to take into account that the option is only applicable for credits granted after 2009 and that the benefit can only be requested once every five years.
The second option is for those who already have more than three months without paying their credit, in this case, the person can request an extension for up to 24 months .
Infonavit explained that in this case, when the person recovers his job and can resume payments, the Institute will offer him other benefits, although it does not give details of them.
To have access to the benefits, the borrower must enter the page https://micuenta.infonavit.org.mx/.
From February 2020 to February 2021, Mexico lost 676,589 formal jobs, equivalent to an annual rate of -3.3%, according to reports from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).
