The rain that fell throughout the night made the first day of the official MotoGP test in Misano difficult. Due to the wet asphalt, only eight drivers took to the track, although some interesting things were already seen.
The fastest driver when the morning session ended was Johann Zarco . The Ducati Pramac rider, who will travel to France tomorrow to undergo surgery for compartment syndrome, completed 15 laps in the closing stages, when the asphalt finally dried and the slicks could be mounted, setting a time of 1:33.895 .
Behind him, at 385 thousandths, Stefan Bradl came second, who with 34 laps was the most active of the morning. The newly renovated German tester began to spin when the track was still quite wet, as Honda is testing a new prototype that has already shown some novelties from the first images: a different fairing with a vertical air intake, different from that of the current RC213V , and also a new aerodynamic configuration with more dropped fins.
Dani Pedrosa finished third on the KTM, who also took to the track alone in the final part of the session, as did Pol Espargaró , who followed in fourth position on the Honda, despite having made a brief shakedown of two runs, probably to assess if everything on his RC213V was in order for the afternoon.
The fifth fastest time went to Lorenzo Savadori ‘s Aprilia. The Noale test driver has managed to recover from his ankle injury in time and this morning he completed a total of 28 laps. A new fender was also seen on the RS-GP, fitted with an air intake, probably designed to keep the temperature of the front tires under control. Maverick Viñales also did several laps, but finished last with a time far from the best.
Fabio Quartararo (6th) and Joan Mir (7th) also took to the track. The championship leader took advantage of the conditions to put in a few laps as the rain, and in particular the mixed conditions, seem to be his and Yamaha’s Achilles heel. The reigning world champion, who will test Suzuki’s 2022 engine and some set-up and electronic solutions today, only did four laps, postponing the real start of work for the afternoon.
