Le Mans.- The weekend of the French Grand Prix started with a record dating from 2018, achieved, then, by Johann Zarco. The mark, which could not be beaten in recent years, was crushed on Friday by Enea Bastianini, and this same Saturday morning, in FP3, Fabio Quartararo lowered it first and then Pecco Bagnaia, who seemed to end up leading the session. But in one final anthology lap, Zarco took back what was his and set the new fastest lap ever done at 1:30.537.
The Frenchman from Pramac-Ducati beat the brand’s official rider, Bagnaia, by 31 thousandths, with Quartararo finishing in third place. The Yamaha rider took over from Jack Miller this Saturday giving wheel to Marc Márquez, who following the Frenchman for many laps in the final part of the session, managed to finish fourth and secure passage to Q2, as he did in Jerez with the Australian . In the same way, as happened then with the Ducati rider, Marc thanked Fabio for his ‘help’ on the track.
Precisely Miller finished fifth, ahead of Aleix Espargaró and Takaaki Nakagami, who closed a lap at the last minute that also took him to Q2. Alex Rins and Pol Espargaró will also be in the fight for pole position, while Jorge Martín, tenth in the session, will be left out of Q2 as he was unable to improve on Bastianini’s Friday time, who finished FP3 16th after breaking a engine of his Ducati, but he asserted his FP2 record in the combined.
Some illustrious people should be in Q1 alongside Martín, such as Maverick Viñales, Joan Mir (12th), Miguel Oliveira (18th) or Franco Morbidelli, who finished 19th and still hasn’t raised his head with the official Yamaha.
