Johann Zarco rode in fourth place for most of the laps of the MotoGP race in Barcelona, failing to make the right choice for the hard rear tire, compared to the medium one worn by the three riders ahead of him.
“It’s frustrating, because I rode the hard rubber behind expecting a performance in the last few laps that I never had,” he lamented.
The Frenchman from the Pramac-Ducati was resigned to staying on the verge of the podium, once again, in the race of the Grand Prix of Catalonia, but unexpectedly he found himself with a gift from Aleix Espargaró.
“I couldn’t get close (to Aleix and Jorge Martín), but then he stopped giving gas, first I thought he had broken the engine but when I saw him wave I understood that he thought the race was over. that podium, thank you,” said the Frenchman.
At the press conference on the podium, Zarco also made his assessment of the incident caused by Takaaki Nakagami that absolutely conditioned the development of the race, taking Alex Rins and Pecco Bagnaia ahead.
Zarco was one of those who, after the incident between Nakagami and Rins in Mugello, aligned himself with those who considered that it had been a career incident without further ado. But after messing it up again in Barcelona, the Frenchman considers that the Japanese “lost all the credit” of those who supported him in Italy.
“We talked about it in the safety commission (on Friday), and from Mugello Rins he asked us for our opinion on the accident they had there,” Zarco said.
“He wanted us to give him our opinion on what happened and almost all of us agreed that in that case Nakagami did not make a mistake at Mugello and we more or less agree with the stewards that they could not penalize in that case, although we were also I agree that he can be, at times, quite aggressive in overtaking”, he valued. “But he didn’t make a big mistake [at Mugello], however this time he took Rin ahead.”
Now, the Frenchman does consider that he has reached the limit.
“As of today he has totally lost the credit that we gave him during the security commission, which is a shame for him,” settled the one from the Côte d’Azur.
