ZDF Magazin Royale: That's how much sales Jan Böhmermann made with his satirical magazine

A year ago, ZDF Magazin Royale published a tabloid with made-up stories about publishers. Now he announced how much money the paper brought in.

Berlin – About a year ago, in April 2021, Jan Böhmermann teased the Yellowpress with his satirical show ZDF* Magazin Royale. Following the example of the magazines, which make money with stories about celebrities that are often made up or greatly exaggerated, the team published an issue of the “Freizeit Magazin Royale”.

In the corresponding episode, the ZDF Magazin Royale explained how much or little the headlines of the gossip magazines are based on and what tricks the publishers use to avoid legal consequences. To illustrate this, ZDF Magazin Royale* brought a magazine to newsstands that reported satirically on those publishers for whom the German yellow press is responsible. Jan Böhmermann, who recently took on the US investor and billionaire Peter Thiel at Neo Magazin Royale, has now explained in a 15-minute YouTube video how much money you can make with such a sheet.

Neo Magazin Royale had to have the magazine reprinted on a large scale

After the first edition of around 32,000 copies sold out at newsstands within a few days, a further 98,000 copies were ordered online, which had to be reprinted.

An employee, who is sitting next to Böhmermann in the video and hiding behind a computer screen, calculates the income and expenses. Of the 99 cents that a magazine cost, some went to Paypal or had to be paid for distribution and shipping. Pictures, layout and printing also reduced profits. No expenses were calculated for the content design. The texts would have written the reaction in their free time, as Böhmermann ironically explains.

Jan Böhmermann wants to donate profits from “Freizeit Magazin Royale”.

“We made 55,139.38 euros with this nonsense newspaper for 99 cents and we didn’t even try very hard. We haven’t even sold advertising,” concludes Jan Böhmermann. The profit is to be donated to 15 media educational institutions.

Most recently, Jan Böhmermann was in the media after he announced his Corona* disease. In the “Fest & Fluffy” podcast, he said that after a few negative tests, “the little rascal” appeared on the test on the second day with symptoms. (tk) *fr.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
