Now visitors can also be enchanted by the three Leo triplets in the future. The funny girls already have names.
Gelsenkirchen – A good five weeks after the birth of triplets, the zoo in Gelsenkirchen has revealed the secret of gender and names: The funny little ones are girls. Their names are Jamila, Kumani and Malaika.
The Zoom Erlebniswelt proudly presented the trio of the still clumsy mini big cats to the public for the first time on Monday morning. And shortly after the curtain was lowered in front of a pane of glass at 9:10 a.m. and the view of the lion mother Fiona with her three lively girls became clear, it was clear: the sweet triplets have star potential. They are likely to become a crowd puller in the area in the coming weeks.
African names
“It’s a special event,” enthused Gelsenkirchen’s mayor Karin Welge (SPD). With the African names of the cats, she also betrayed their meaning. Jamila translates as “the beautiful”, Malaika is “the angel” and Kumani means “fate”.
Jamila was “the brightest” of the fur after her birth on October 8th, explained animal keeper Wiebke Wolff when she came up with a name. Wolff looked after the trio from birth. Malaika, the “angel”, was initially “particularly peaceful”. And, according to Wolff, the name Kumani stands for the fact that it was a positive fate that three little lion ladies were born for the first time in the history of the Zoom Erlebniswelt.
Mother Fiona and her sister Lissy came to North Rhine-Westphalia two years ago from the Swedish zoo in Kolmarden. Aunt Lissy takes care of the offspring just as carefully as Mama Fiona.
Only Lion Papa Bantu has nothing to report at the moment. He has to stay separated from the rest of the female lion gang for a few more weeks and is only allowed to watch his offspring – like the zoo visitors – through a pane of glass for the time being. dpa
