They are the sleepiest
They sleep about 22 hours a day. They are the sleepiest animals that exist. This very long daily sleep serves to save energy since their diet does not provide them with enough nutrients and they replace it with so many hours of sleep. The rest of the time -they are not asleep-, they use it to clean themselves, socialize and feed themselves.
Your diet
Their diet is based on eucalyptus leaves , which are toxic to other animals. They usually eat an average of 1.2 kilos of leaves a day. Their teeth are adapted to eat these leaves: the incisors to move the leaves in the mouth and the molars to chop them. Thus, the teeth remove moisture from the leaves (their way of hydration) and crush the fiber of the leaves, thus facilitating their digestion, which is also very slow.
Reproduction
After a gestation of 30 days, the koalas that come to life are born blind, hairless, 2 centimeters long and weighing barely half a gram. In addition, their skin is completely pinkish and until six months do not pass they do not come out of the maternal bag. Koalas can live up to 17 years.
Without water
Another of the curiosities of these animals is that they can survive without water. His name, in the aboriginal language means “he who does not drink” ; they only need to consume it when they are sick. Basically they do not require this liquid element because they obtain the water they need from the eucalyptus leaves.
Marking territory
The male , who is usually slightly larger than the female, marks territory with urine, like many other animals. Females mark territory thanks to the strong smell of their mammary glands.
